The End is Here...

I have truly had a blast this year with this group of students.  They have proved that teamwork and cooperative learning can help all of us to excel by leaps and bounds.  Problem solving, critical discussions and debates create endless solutions.  Compassion, empathy, and friendship are characteristics each student in my class possesses. We can do anything we set our minds to...and the rewards are tremendous!

Our class did a STAR-tastic job on the EOG's!!!  In math, 91% of the class made 3's and 4's and in reading, 78% of the class made 3's and 4's!!!  They have impressed me so much!  I look forward to watching them continue this success in the years to come.  Have a wonderful summer and good luck in 4th grade next year!

"My Wish"
I hope that the days come easy and the moments pass slow,
And each road leads you where you want to go,
And if you're faced with a choice, and you have to choose,
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you.
And if one door opens to another door closed,
I hope you keep on walkin' till you find the window,
If it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile,

But more than anything, more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.

I hope you never look back, but ya never forget,
All the ones who love you, in the place you left,
I hope you always forgive, and you never regret,
And you help somebody every chance you get,
Oh, you find his grace, in every mistake,
And you always give more than you take.

But more than anything, yeah, and more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.

This is my wish
I hope you know somebody loves you
May all your dreams stay big

Love,
Mrs. Buchanan

Goodbye Shay!

Shay has been our peer student throughout this year.  She has had a wonderful personality and has been a huge help in our classroom.  We will miss her greatly, but we are extremely excited for her graduation from Garner High School this week!  May you have the best of luck in college!

Outside Snapshots

We were outside and since it was a nice day and everyone was at school that day, it would be nice to take a class picture! Here's the final outcome:
Our serious side...
And our super fun side!!!

Mini-Book Exchange

About 10 students participated in the class book exchange.  The goal was to barter books for some extra summer reading book choices.  There were many books to chose from and all different genres.  Everyone seemed happy to walk away with something new to read!

The Egg Drop Contest

We decided to have a friendly group competition this week...and the winners would enjoy a few slices of pizza for lunch one day!!!  The Egg Drop Contest quickly took off as students were asked to create a contraption that would protect their egg from cracking or breaking when let go from the highest standing point on our playgroud.
This has to be the first year that NO EGGS BROKE!!!  Here are the winning teams:
The Unbeatables
Egg Backpacks
The Cotton Bowls
The Egg Savers
The Egg-cellents
The Egg Saver 5000

Gazette Memo May 17-21

EOG week was a huge success!!! I witnessed each and every child using all the test taking strategies we had previously worked on in class. I know they all tried their best and were determined to prove how much they’ve learned this year. Unfortunately, I will not get scores back until Friday so I won’t have any information to give you until then…what a suspenseful week ahead of us!

There are still 4 weeks left of school. We will be reflecting on the year, completing end of the year assessments, working on beginning 4th grade math and reading, and celebrating our achieved goals from this year. There are many activities I would like to do with the class…so I will need each student to bring in $4 for all the end of year activities. If they do not pay, they will not be able to participate (that would be terribly sad because they all deserve to take part in them). I wish I could pay for everyone, but that extremely hard to do in this economy.

Thank you for your never-ending support. Like I’ve said 100 times, I have thoroughly loved teaching this group of children. They have reminded me why I love to teach and have motivated me to work hard all year. I will miss them tremendously…they already know tears could be shed…mine of course!

Things you need to remember this week:

**Bring in $4 as soon as possible.
Tues.- Wear yellow or black.
Wed.- Bring bubbles.
Thurs.- Wear a hat!
